Churches are dumbing down yet the issues we face are growing more complex.  Many of us are striving for deeper understanding, deeper meaning, and a deeper faith.  The Young Adult program at First Presbyterian Church is a place where people in their twenties and thirties can explore faith, express perspectives, and experience God.  In the midst of it all, great relationships are formed.

Friendship

When time and experience are shared, relationships deepen.  Here are some of the social encounters in which 20s and 30s are involved.

Resonate Wednesdays – dinner at a restaurant after Wednesday Night Worship.

Outings - indoor rock-climbing, Braves game, IMAX, fall foliage tour, etc.

Annual Celebrations – Fall Getaway, Fall party, Christmas party, Spring picnic.

Softball – co-ed softball in the summer.

Get-togethers with other young adult programs.

New member sponsorship - a contact and support for new members.

Youth group advisor.

Twenty-something evenings monthly fellowship

Exploring Faith

One of the best ways to grow spiritually is to meet on common ground to honestly explore faith and exchange perspectives.

Sunday School at 10:05 – Harvest (room 319) A discussion based group for singles and young couples.

Disciple – a church wide program that digs deep into the Bible. There is a young adult class on Tuesday nights.

Presbyterian Women’s Circle 11 – a monthly Bible study and fellowship for women.

Book Study occasional studies with the young adults of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.

Young Couples Class occassional series focused on the early years of marriage, careers, and children.

Worship

The worship at this church is diverse and meaningful.  There are specific worship gatherings geared to and led by people in their twenties and thirties.

Resonate – held on the third Wednesday of each month in the Reception Room.  Images and paintings from art and popular culture are used to inspire spirituality and challenge thought. A personable, yet provoking, talk is followed by a creative way for us to respond such as communion around a table, washing of hands, or a prayer offering.  All of this is set amidst piano arrangements that stir the soul and honor God.  What’s great is that this service has developed out of the gifts of people who have stepped forward, and will continue to evolve as others share their gifts and ideas of art, music and creative worship.

Maundy Thursday – held in someone’s home to celebrat communion during Holy Week.

There are also ways to be involved in Sunday morning worship.

Music program —join the choir or make your own joyful noise from the pew

Ushering – showing people to their seats and collecting the offering.

Service

The church has so many ways to put faith into action.  These are some in which we regularly work.

Habitat for Humanity— t eam with other members on one of our Habitat Houses

Harvest Sunday School Class

Harvest is a time to gather up crops so that the community can be fed.  In this class, we gather spiritual depth, faith that seeks understanding, and a shared experience of God so that we may better feed the community in which we live and worship.  All young adults are welcome to join this new class.

Please join us on Sunday! We meet in Room 319 . Social events for the Sunday School class are also planned during the year as well. If you'd like to know more, or let us know you're coming, drop Kevin Knab a line:  kknab@firstpresatl.org.
