Volunteers Needed Now for the Next Habitat-Atlanta Home Build
Get your work gloves ready. Test those calluses. We're all set to begin another Habitat for Humanity home in Atlanta. The First Presbyterian Church of Altanta will join with three other churches to begin construction of a home on Feb. 26 in the Thomasville Heights neighborhood.
The home will be built for a single mother who works as a housekeeper in two Buckhead homes. She raises five children from infant to 18 years old. According to Habitat, she is excited about the opportunity to move to a better neighborhood, especially for her children who are very active in school, church, and the community.
The dates of construction are all Saturdays: 2/26,3/5,3/12,3/19,4/2,4/9 and 4/16. You won't need to bring tools, just wear some old work clothes.
You arrive at 8:00 A.M. on Saturday and sign in, " says Bill Earnest, First Presbyterian elder who has hammered nails and toted lumber for a number of Atlanta Habitat homes. "After an opening prayer, the house leader delivers a lecture on safety and lets the volunteers choose among the work scheduled for that day. The work mainly is basic carpentry, like assembling walls and the roof, installing windows, doors and siding, painting and landscaping. There are skilled craftsmen at the site who give instructions and who work with the volunteers on the house construction. It's a lot of fun, and you don't have to be skilled.
To volunteer for this Habitat house, contact Bill Earnest at (404)351-8030 or Mary Koe Dellinger at (404)228-7766. Bill or Mary Joe will provide full guidance on the preparation and paperwork. Enjoy a most rewarding day helping others.
